Gresley Rovers celebrated another Banks's League victory
on Saturday by officially adopting a new club crest.
The carefully crafted new badge, diligently researched
by Rovers' committee man Frank McArdle, has already made
its way on to club tracksuits and will soon be on the
players shirts.
In addition every item in the Moat Ground's new club
shop will carry the full badge and a host of new souvenirs
will be added to the current crop of scarves and jumpers
by Christmas.
Church Gresley pottery company Mason and Cash are sponsoring
the new badge and will be producing a range of mugs, tankards
and other ceramic souvenirs in the near future - all of
which will bear the crest.
Company managing director John Perks said: "We hope
they will become collectors' items and something every
non-league soccer fan will want to own."
The badge took three months to design and has been approved
by the Heraldic Society.
Frank McArdle said: "Gresley Rovers are one of the
finest clubs in the West Midlands and we want to lift
the image of the club off the pitch to match the team's
playing abilities. We also want to acknowledge the long
history that belongs to Gresley and the connection the
club has had with the community since it was founded in
1882.
The badge is based on the Gresley family's coat of arms
with additions relevant to the club and the name the Moatmen.
Before
the second World War, Rovers were known as the "Pirates".
