Gresley Rovers have snapped up sacked Burton Albion midfielder Ryan Venning.

Venning finished last season on trial with Rovers after Albion ripped up his contract in a dispute of his failure to report for a two-game trip to Hampshire.

Now Rovers manager Frank Northwood has made the move permanent despite opposition from West Midlands League rivals Rocester.

Northwood said today: “I’ve got a lot of respect for the lad because joining Gresley was more important to him than money.”
