Red tape forces Rovers to cancel - Burton Mail

29th July 1991
Gresley Rovers’ friendly match against Friar Lane Old Boys, scheduled for tomorrow, has been called off.

The game has been cancelled because of the difficulty with administrative arrangements the club says.

Rovers meet Merseysiders Knowsley United in a friendly at the Moat Ground on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Rovers build-up to the new campaign began with a 2-0 home defeat by a near full-strength Chesterfield on Saturday.

Manager Frank Northwood said afterwards: “The game was a very good workout for us, although there is no doubt that Chesterfield fully deserved to win.

“I have learned something from the game, though, and that’s who can play and who can’t. It’s helped me mark a few ticks and a few crosses against names.”
