Gresley Rovers have signed Ilkeston Town’s highly rated striker Simon Osborne, with manager Steve Dolby claiming today: “I’m sure he’ll score 20-plus goals for us next season.”
Osborne becomes the first of Rovers’ major summer signings but Dolby said: “There are more in the pipeline – and we could be interested in Nigel Simms.”
Delighted Dolby won the race for the Nottingham-based 23 year old ahead of a string of other clubs – including GM Vauxhall Conference Telford – then said: “He’s a very fast, very hard-working player – I would liken him very much to Kieron Smith.”
No fee was involved for the former Grimsby Town striker but Dolby said: “Several Football League and Conference clubs have been watching Simon and he has had talks with Telford, so I’m very pleased he’s chosen Gresley.”
