Gresley sign two more

Gresley Rovers have added further to their squad for next season's Unibond challenge with the signings of ex Burton Albion midfielder Sean Gummer and former Rovers Favourite Andy Simpson from Unibond neighbours Belper Town.

23 year old Gummer had a recent spell with the Brewers before going out on loan to Belper Town in a move that was made permanent last season. He finished the season for the Unibond outfit as the clubs top scorer last season with 12 goals.

Manager Gary Norton said "Sean has been tracked by previous Gresley managers and I am delighted that perseverance has finally paid off and Sean has agreed to come here. He will give us that bit of pace and creativity we need in key areas and is just as comfortable on either flank as well as up-front. He is hard working and can go past people as well as put a decent ball into the danger area. The fact that he scored a few goals for Belper last season obviously caught our eye and we are very hopeful that he can weigh in with a few goals for us next season."

Attacking midfielder Simpson, 27, returns to the Moatmen for his second spell after previously being at the Moat Ground from 1997 to 1999 where he made 60 appearances scoring 9 goals. On his return to the club Norton said "Simmo is a player proven in this league and his arrival will add healthy competition for places in our central midfield area. He is very creative which is something I felt we lacked at times last year. He's very neat and tidy on the ball passes well, and doesn't give possession away to easily, In addition, he doesn't mind sticking his foot and digging in when it's needed. At 6ft 2in, his height will give us an additional presence in the air and he has a past record of chipping in with his fair share of goals for whichever club he has played for."

Commenting on preparations for the new season, Norton added "Things are taking shape nicely for the new season but we are still looking to add further quality in key areas during the next few weeks. Our priority remains another forward and we currently have two players considering offers at the moment."
