Woodley Sports pre-match news

10th September 2004
Gresley Rovers travel to Woodley Sports looking to extend thier unbeaten start to the season to seven games. Rovers currently lie top the table after 5 games and made it through to the 1st qualifying round of the FA cup with a narrow victory over Studley last weekend.

Manager Gary Norton has a strong squad to pick from with the exception of Richard Wardle who is unavailable and Emeka Ejiofor who serves the 2nd game of a 3 match suspension for his sending off at Rossendale last month. Karl Brown returns to the squad after missing the 0-0 draw at Willenhall Town in midweek. Norton also revealed exclusively to Gresleyrovers.com that the club were on the verge of making a new signing although declined to name his target saying that he was hopeful that the deal would be done in time to enable the player to be available for selection against Woodley.

Norton commenting on the weekend fixture said "Woodley are an unknown quantity and we travel their not really knowing to much about them. They too have had a fairly decent start and we will need to raise our game again if we are to come away with our unbeaten run in tact. Defensively, we have done very well so far this season and we are obviously looking for that to continue as well as trying to make sure we do well up the other end"

On the clubs potential new signing Norton added "With one or two of the fringe players moving on recently the squad has thinned out somewhat and as a result we have been talking to two or three players during the last couple of weeks. We have made an offer to one of the players concerned, which has been accepted. I don't want to name the player or mention too much about him till the paperwork is done but I will say he is a player of good quality and will give me an additional option in a certain department. We have been lucky with injuries so far but that can change very quickly, we also have a lot of games coming up and I want to make sure we have enough strength and depth and quality in our squad to cope with that."
