Gresley Rovers Press Release - Tony Kirkland

13th September 2004
Gresley Rovers have today announced Tony Kirkland as successor to Neil Betteridge as Club Secretary.

Tony was previously with Burton Albion were he started as Secretary for the Reserves before progressing to their First team. He was with the club for approximately 20 years. He wished Burton continued success now and in the future.

Chairman Mark Evans, commenting on the appointment acknowledged that finding a someone to replace Neil was “always going to be a difficult task but that in securing Tony’s services they had found a very experienced and knowledgeable individual, who is well known within non league football”.

He added, “I am delighted that Tony has agreed to join us, he has been working with Neil over the last few matches so as to ensure a smooth hand over, and I am certain that Tony will fit in perfectly, I am looking forward to working with him …quot; the Chairman/ Secretary relationship is an important one, Neil and I had a great relationship, a true partnership, I do not see any reason why that will be any different with Tony”.

Tony Kirkland talking about his appointment said “I am looking forward to working with Mark and Gary. Mark is leading the club in the right direction and I am sure that we will progress up the non-league pyramid. Who knows in the future we may resume a Gresley Rovers Burton Albion league encounter”.

He added “I would like to thank Mark for inviting me to join Gresley and resume a roll in Football; I would like to wish Neil all the best for the future”.

Announcing that there would be a limited review of the role of the Secretary and its responsibilities in respect of the First, Reserve, and Youth Teams, Mark Evans added that it is was natural consequence of a chance of personnel and followed some recommendations made by outgoing Secretary Neil Betteridge …quot; “we are always looking at opportunities to improve and achieve best practice”.

Tony has been shadowing Neil for the last couple of games, but assumed his responsibilities for last Saturday’s away trip to Woodley Sports.
