Youth Team News

19th August 2005
Gresley Rovers are pleased to announce the appointment of Steve Gee as the new manager of the Youth Team.

This follows the decision of Dean Amess to step down for personal reasons.

Chairman Mark Evans commented that he was delighted that Steve had agreed to step into the role. "I was very disappointed to lose Dean during the close season, he was very committed and passionate about the Youth Team, and conscious of the talent that he was preparing for success in the senior sides, moreover many of those youth team players have already achieved starting places within the Reserves. But he needs some time out for personal reasons, and I respect that - it was a very difficult decision he had to make. I do hope however that Dean will maintain a role with the Club at some point in the near future.

"Steve has agreed to carry on with the work that has been done within the youth team over the last few years - we have a group of youth players that are already getting regular places with the Reserves and a set of promising junior players coming through. The Youth and Reserves and senior junior sides will be working very closely together this season, we are very conscious of the number of games that a few of the players will be eligible and capable of competing within, and we will have to ensure that we manage the situation."

"Steve has a passion for Gresley Rovers, supporting the Club with his family for many years and is well connected with the junior teams within the district - I am confident that he will provide great leadership and encouragement to the players within Club that are eligible to play for the youth team."

Gresley Rovers will compete within the FA Youth Cup, Burton & District Saturday League, and organised friendlies with many of the local professional clubs academy sides.
