O'Connor remains a Moatman

Gresley Rovers football club are delighted to announce that striker Aaron O'Connor has this morning completed the signing of a new season long contract that will keep him at the Moat Ground for season 2006-2007.

Manager Gary Norton was this morning delighted with the news and told Gresley Rovers Online, "We are delighted that Aaron has agreed to stay with us for the coming season. It's been a drawn out and frustrating affair at times whilst we have been waiting for the outcome over the summer, but now that's over and Aaron has agreed another season long deal with us.

"Aaron said to me when we met at the end of last season that he would like stay with us unless he offered a opportunity at professional or Conference National level.

"He has had a couple of very good offers to move to Conference North clubs and I would have fully understood if he had decided to move for the rewards on offer elsewhere but true to his word Aaron has chosen to stay here on a deal that we offered him when we first started talking to him about the coming season way back in February. That says a lot about Aaron O'Connor and the type of person he is. It's still his desire to play at the highest level possible and no doubt that day will come however for the coming season he remains a Gresley Rovers player - a fact everyone at the club is more than delighted about."

"The key thing now is to forget the last couple of months and in the time remaining of pre-season get him focused on the league season ahead. He's had an eventful time over the last few weeks and has only played 45 minutes football in a Gresley shirt during that time. Having said that, he's had an intense pre-season at Rushden and as a result looks very fit so it shouldn't take long to get him back into the swing. With Paul Edwards, Steve Gomm and our new signing Ravi Sangha at the club we have some great attacking options made even better with the news that Aaron remains a Gresley Rovers player."
