South Normanton pre-match news

1st September 2006
Gresley Rovers manager Gary Norton has signed a loan deal with Tamworth midfielder Shaun Ridgway in time for him to play in tomorrow's FA Cup game against South Normanton Athletic.

Tamworth's manager Mark Cooper wanted to send Ridgway out somewhere to get some football as they do not have a reserve side and has allowed him to play in the competition.

With the departure of Mickey Lyons Norton felt there was a lack of creativity in midfield and made the move to bring in Ridgeway before the noon deadline so that he would be eligible to play on Saturday.

Norton said: "Shaun is a Mickey Lyons type player and will probably start on the bench. He trained with us last night and if he performs as he did then, he will soon force his way into the side. Tamworth hold him in high regard, but he is a non-contract player and the loan deal is an open-ended one at the moment.

"We have been conscious ever since Mickey Lyons left that maybe we needed a bit more creativity in midfield and competition in that area. Carl Slater and Jamie Barrett have done very well, but we maybe need a different dimension."

Aaron O'Connor is available after recovering from an ankle injury that has caused him to miss the last two league games. Defenders Andy Spencer and Andy Simpson are also available.

Spencer has yet to feature this season because of a groin problem, but his return will be a welcome one with Dan Douglas out through suspension.

"Andy Spencer trained last night without any problems, so as long as there has been no reaction this morning, he will have the opportunity for a month to hold the shirt down with Dan, who has been impressive, ruled out."

Midfielder Nicky Carter is missing due to illness which has prevented him from training this week.
