UniBond League News Issue 19

23rd December 2006
Although leaders Buxton were fogged off against Shepshed Dynamo they lost little ground as nearest challengers Stocksbridge PS were held at in form Gresley Rovers.

The Steels have now only won one of their last six games whilst Gresley have taken 17 points from their last seven games. Third place Eastwood Town closed the gap on Stocksbridge to just one point with a 5-0 defeat of struggling Bridlington Town who dropped to bottom rung as a consequence. Another 5-0 away win saw Cammell Laird consolidate fourth spot and it was all the more impressive as their victims Goole had taken 13 points from their previous five games. The last play-off place still lies in the hands of Colwyn Bay but their 2-2 draw with Woodley Sports means they only have one win in their last seven outings whilst Woodley are now unbeaten in seven but have still only won once on their travels.

At the opposite end it was an up and down day for Chorley who lifted themselves off the bottom rung with a 1-1 draw at home to fellow strugglers Belper Town but the "Magpies" fell further behind third bottom Wakefield who beat Clitheroe 2-0. Belper, in turn are now only two points ahead of Wakefield and their point at Chorley was only their second in eight games. Elsewhere Rossendale United were twice in front against Kidsgrove Athletic but were hauled back both times as they extended their unbeaten home run to eight and Warrington Town made it six points in the week when they followed up their midweek win against Colwyn Bay with success against Bamber Bridge at the weekend. In the one other game to survive Alsager Town continued their impressive run with a 2-0 victory over Skelmersdale United for their fourth straight win.
