3rd March 2007
Buxton increased their lead at the head of the First Division to ten points with a 4-0 win over next to bottom Chorley as last week's second place side Stocksbridge PS crashed at home to Bradford Park Avenue who are now just one point off the play zone with plenty of games in hand.
Avenue had also won earlier in the week at home to Brigg Town who suffered a 5-1 beating on Saturday to Colwyn Bay who keep hold of the last play-off spot for the time being. Eastwood Town ended a barren run of three games that had produced just one point in a midweek draw with Goole AFC when they hit five at Gresley Rovers at the weekend to take advantage of the slip up by Stocksbridge and move in to second, albeit a respectful distance behind the leaders. Cammell Laird made it four wins on the trot when accounting for Rossendale United to also go above Stocksbridge. Another debutant to score was Kidsgrove Athletic's Work Experience player Byron Moore as his side beat Harrogate Railway 3-0 whilst at Warrington Town the home side lost 1-2 to Alsager Town with all the goals coming from the penalty spot. Finally, Goole not only won for the first time against Woodley Sports in four attempts - it was the first time they avoided conceding four goals against the free scoring Stockport side!
UniBond "Club Of The Month" Awards
The UniBond One "Club of the Month" awards for February has gone to Cammell Laird.
League newcomers Cammell Lairds are the seventh different First Division club to have lifted the lower tier's "Club of the Month" award and they took the prize in some style after a very indifferent January in which they won only one out of five games and suffered two defeats. However their recovery in February was superb with a 100% record in five outings with just one goal conceded.
UniBond One "Fair Play" Awards
The UniBond One League "Fair Play" awards for February was lifted by Kidsgrove Athletic.
Kidsgrove are the seventh different winners of the First Division accolade although it is somewhat surprising that they were lifting the award for the first time given the stranglehold they have at the top of the season to date table. They appear destined to win the £1,000 First Division top prize in a canter and increased their lead still further in a month that was not generally a good one for discipline in the lower tier. In fact, it was a disastrous month for Belper Town who plummeted from 4th to 15th.
Brockie Names Morgan As Assistant
New Harrogate Railway Athletic manager Vince Brockie has appointed David Morgan as his number two. Morgan is the father of current Harrogate skipper Rob and played for Bradford Park Avenue in addition to winning the FA Vase with Guiseley in 1991 appearing alongside Brockie.
Shepshed Sign Dryden
Having won only one of their last six games Shepshed Dynamo have signed former Football League defender Richard Dryden to bolster their flagging fortunes. The 37 year old made over three hundred appearances in the full time game during which time he played for both Bristol clubs, Southampton, Exeter City (with whom he won the 4th Division title in 1990), Notts County, Birmingham City and Luton Town plus loan spells at Plymouth Argyle, Stoke City, Northampton Town and Swindon Town. On leaving his last Football League club Dryden dropped in to Conference football with Scarborough.
Debut To Remember For Davidson
Danny Davidson enjoyed a debut to remember on Monday evening when he hit a hat-trick in his first game for Bradford Park Avenue after his move from Premier Division neighbours Ossett Town. The 22 year old, who was also wanted by Frickley Athletic, included two penalty strikes in his treble that floored Brigg Town.
New Physio For Brig
Bamber Bridge have appointed one of their former players Damian Williams-Corcoran to replace Dominic Rogan who has left the club to work in the Canary Islands for a short spell.
