14th April 2007
Buxton were confirmed as First Division champions but they kept the Division's biggest gate of the season, 720, waiting until stoppage time before hitting the goal against Stocksbridge that clinched the title.
Second and third placed Eastwood Town and Cammell Laird finished all square in a six goal thriller whilst 1-0 home wins for Colwyn Bay and Bradford Park Avenue saw Stocksbridge drop out of the play-off slots. Ossett Albion's outside chance of a play-off place took a dive when they lost at Rossendale United. At the other end it has been a long time coming for the patient Chorley fans but they at last had something to smile about when the "Magpies" hit six against Shepshed Dynamo.
Egan To Quit At Rossendale
Rossendale United manager Derek Egan has announced that he is to quit at the end of the current campaign due to a lack of funding and the uncertain future surrounding the Dark Lane club. Also going after ten year's service is Secretary Kevin Proctor leaving Rossendale without any effective administration and an owner who is looking to sell it - none of which bodes well for its future.
A Sign Of Times To Come
Visitors of fellow UniBond League clubs to Colwyn Bay's Llanelian Road ground are now facing a sign of a things to come for their own clubs with the Welsh side having had to adopt the no smoking ban that came in to effect in Wales from the 1st April. No smoking is permitted in any covered area that not only includes the clubhouse but also the covered stand and covered terrace. A rainy day will therefore presumably be bad news for smoking supporters. Off the field of play Club Chairman Bob Paton is stepping down at the end of the season and Secretary Mike Roberts has also had to resign to take up a job offer in Holland.
