UniBond League News Issue 36

21st April 2007
Two wins in the week confirmed Cammell Laird as First Division runners-up and with Buxton already crowned as champions it means the two top spots have both gone to newcomers.

Despite losing surprisingly at home to Bamber Bridge on Saturday Eastwood Town will be in the play-offs and then its any two from three for the remaining places.

Contenders Bradford Park Avenue dropped two points when drawing 0-0 with the champions whilst both Colwyn Bay and Stocksbridge PS enjoyed 4-2 home wins.

Avenue, however, with two games to play as opposed to their rivals' one match appear favourites for one of the spots leaving everything depending on next Saturday when the Welsh club play host to Eastwood whilst Stocksbridge travel to Rossendale United who have won their last three games. What a finish in prospect in both Divisions!

Lords To The Rescue

The fine stately home of English cricket came to the rescue of Bradford Park Avenue as they sought a thousand seats to improve their Horsfall Stadium.

Having contacted all the football clubs in the area without any success Avenue spotted an advert out of the blue in which Lords cricket ground stated they were replacing their seating and were offering their old ones on a come and remove them basis.

Five Avenue volunteers went down to Lords and spent three days dismantling 1,600 seats working up to sixteen hours a day. Kevin Hainsworth, who led the volunteer force, said "It was a fantastic experience working in the home of cricket and all the history that goes with it.

The fact that the seats match our home colours is an added bonus and they will look great when we've installed them in the summer. We are really grateful to everybody at Lords for their generosity and the support they gave us".

Avenue will be sending a photo to the Lords website once the seats have been installed.

Stevens Quits At Shepshed

There may be very little time left in the 2006/7 season but the managerial changes don't stop.

Hard on the heels of Derek Egan's announcement last week that he would not be continuing at Rossendale United came news of a 26th managerial change when Adam Stevens and his Coach Dave Stringer resigned their positions with Shepshed Dynamo after last Saturday's 6-1 defeat at next to bottom Chorley.

Taking over in a temporary capacity until the end of the season is Club Secretary Dave Wheatley in what will be a third emergency stint. His previous two resulted in a win and a draw and he remained undefeated after his side took a point against Wakefield on Wednesday evening.

Applications for the vacant position from suitably qualified and interested parties should be sent to new club Chairman Mr ShaunTaylor, Ingleberry House, Ingleberry Road, Shepshed, Leics LE12 9DE - Closing date Friday, 27th April.

Mr Taylor has taken over from Peter Bull who has stood down after some thirteen years service, the last two as Chairman.
