Stuarts’s trial - Burton Mail

16th September 1985
Gresley Rovers may lose another player to the Football League.

Centre-half Stuart Watkiss has joined Fourth Division Crewe Alexandra for a two week trial.

He made his debut for Crewe in their 5–0 victory over Bury reserves on Saturday while Gresley were beating Chasetown 1–0.

Watkiss, 19, will be training with the first team and is expected to be given a chance to prove himself in a Fourth Division game.

He played twice for Wolverhampton Wanderers in their First Division relegation season but drifted out of the game before being brought to Gresley in the close season by manager Frank Northwood.
