Away the lads - Richard Whitehead – Burton Mail

15th October 1985
Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood reacted philosophically to the disappointment of missing out on a home draw in the Fourth Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

The draw gave Rovers a long trip to meet Vauxhall Opel Division One side Leyton-Wingate.

But while Northwood is confident Rovers can continue their remarkable cup progress, he’s disappointed for the club’s supporters.

“I feel very sorry for the fans. They have been tremendous throughout this run and they deserve the reward of a home draw. Still I’m sure they will enjoy the day out in London,” he added.

Leyton-Wingate marched into the Fourth Qualifying Round with an impressive win over Southern League Premier Division Crawley on Saturday.

But Northwood’s not concerned by the size of the task facing his side.

“You never know who you might get at this stage and it could have been a lot worse. We’re going down there with nothing to lose and it will be another great experience.”
