New Midfielder signs - Burton Mail

31st October 1986
Gresley Rovers have snapped up 19-year-old midfield player David Smith from Fourth Division Rochdale.

Burton-boy Smith, a former winner of the Wembley superskills competition on FA Cup Final day, goes straight into a 13-man squad for Rovers’ Banks’s League Premier Division trip to Blakenall (2.30pm).

Rovers’ boss Frank Northwood also includes striker Martin Devaney.

Devaney missed the midweek game against GKN Sankey because of a groin injury, but has declared himself fit and is expected to resume his partnership with Brian Beresford.

Skipper Dave King is still ruled out by a knee injury.
