Gresley wait on Beattie - Andy Parker – Burton Mail

9th February 1987
Gresley Rovers should know tonight whether their bid to sign on of Banks’s League’s top defenders is to be successful.

Rovers recently served seven day’s notice of their intention to approach Wednesfield Social’s former Wolves full back Dave Beattie, described by Moat Ground manager Frank Northwood as a “bit of class.”

But Wednesfield promptly signed Beattie on a contract which means a fee of £200-£300 could now be involved.

“We’re just debating whether it’s worth speculating a bit of money,” said Northwood last night. “Beattie is certainly a very good player and I do need to strengthen the defence – we can score goals but we keep letting them in. If we do sign the lad it will bring a bit of class into the side along with our other new boy, Gary Stevens – and that’s what we want at Gresley.
