Gresley Rovers field a surprise new signing in the Banks’s League game at Rushall Olympic tonight (7.30pm).
Highly rated Stoke based keeper Alan Ryder is drafted into the side to replace Moat Ground idol Karl Austin, who is unavailable.
Ryder (29) is a former Stoke City player who made 72 appearances in the Central League.
Says Northwood: “In my book there’s nobody better than Karl when he’s on top of his form – but this lad’s even more highly rated.”
Northwood is hoping that Ryder, currently on the books of a Staffs Senior League club, will fill a gap for Gresley while Austin is unavailable for the next two games.
“But if this lad is the business and he wants to stay he might give us a bit of a problem – and a nice problem at that. Karl has been travelling up from the south of England to play for us and it’s been affecting him.
“Having said that, I spoke to him before Saturday’s home game with Lye and he responded very well.”
Northwood is still waiting to hear from Wednesfield Social defender Dave Beattie, who has been approached by Gresley.
Beattie is trying to get himself from contract with Wednesfield.
