Rovers boss Kenno turns juggler - Burton Mail

1st November 2000
Gresley Rovers made the trip north to take on FA Umbro Trophy first round opponents North Ferriby United Saturday (3 pm), with manager Brian Kenning needing to jiggle his squad.

Richard Selby (shoulder), Richie Gardner (hamstring), Steve Coates (suspension), Ian Wright (unavailable) and Dave King (chest infection) have all had to be scrubbed from the Moat chief's plans for the clash with the Unibond Division One outfit. And Mark Peters, who suffered a dead leg in midweek training, faces a late fitness test he is by no means certain to pass.

Said Kenning: "These are complications we could have done without but I'm not moaning, these are the sort of problems every manager has to face at every club. There's always the misconception Unibond teams will be physical, kick and rush outfits. But we've had them watched and they're a footballing side. They've got a good surface up there so I expect it to be a good game for the spectators and that's how it should be - I'd much rather a cup game is won by the better footballers. I'm not one of those people who automatically go away and look for a replay to get them back to our place. We'll see how it goes up there but if we can get a win then that's all to the good."

And Kenning has high hopes striker Simon Tucker's purple patch will continue as well as inspire front running partner Kevin Allsop.

Kenning said: " I've said it before - once Kevin gets into the groove, he'll score plenty of goals at this level, but at the moment I feel he's a little bit in need of that one goal which will set him off on a nice run."

Rovers from: Baldwin, Broadhurst, Doughty, Warren, Bluck, Wardle, Coates, Allsop, Tucker, Peters, Sandar, Roberts, Reynolds, Cheetham and Jenkinson.
