Kenno - Rovers need to play like Albion - Glenn Brookes - Burton Mail

2nd November 2000
Gresley Rovers boss Brian Kenning has urged his side to take a leaf out of neighbours Burton Albion's book as he searches for more consistency.

Kenning's team have shown signs of finally turning the corner this season but are still languishing in the bottom half of the Dr Marten Western Division table.

The Moatmen's lack of firepower earlier in the campaign seems to have been solved with the arrival of Simon Tucker, but Rovers are now leaking goals, two of those coming in their 3-2 win over North Ferriby in the FA Trophy.

Said the Moat boss: " It is time to get our league form together now- I don't want to be at the bottom of the table. Being inconsistent is no good to me, I want us to go on a run like Burton Albion have been on - I don't care if we draw a few. Looking at the quality of footballers we have, we need to start producing,
"If the players can't produce in the two months up to Christmas then I will look to change it around. Doing well in the cups is nice and it will be great if we beat Rocester and progress in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, but we finished half way down the league last season and that will not be good enough for me this time.

"We're looking like we'll score more goals now but after last week I would like us to be tighter at the back. I think the club is about a third of the way through a rebuilding process and we have a young squad. Now we need to go that step further and become a consistent side - I want to get back in the Premier Division."

Rovers, last season's beaten finalists will play host to Graham Street Primms on Wednesday, November 29, in the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
