Moat Ground cash hopes - Burton Mail

20th June 1988
Gresley Rovers look set to expand their successful tote and raise extra cash to help young players.

South Derbyshire Council has agreed in principle to allow the club to sell its tote to the public in Swadlincote town centre on market days.

The tote is already a popular venture that pays out £812 a week to local winners and now organisers hope that this figure can be boosted to more than £1,000.

Cash raised goes towards the general running of the club and for new equipment.

Club treasurer and secretary Mr Peter Jenkinson said: “We don’t really know if it will work until we have a go. This is just another avenue we are exploring to bring more money into the club.”

The council’s chief technical officer is now going to find a suitable site for the tote sale on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
