Wells on stand-by in Gresley shock - Burton Mail

30th September 1988
Sacked striker Ian Wells is set for a dramatic recall as Gresley Rovers chase FA Cup glory tomorrow.

Rovers’ manager Frank Northwood released the former Hereford man earlier this month, accusing him a lack of effort.

But with Rovers short of firepower, Wells has been drafted in for the second qualifying round tie away to Banks’s League rivals Hinckley Town (3pm).

Secretary Peter Jenkinson explained: “Wells asked to be given another chance and the manager has agreed.”

Rovers will be without midfielder Graham Fearn, injured in the midweek defeat against Paget Rangers.

Northwood could also make changes in defence after including Martin Dick and Ray Skeemer in a 16-man squad.
