Paul heads home - Burton Mail

14th October 1988
Gresley Rovers new boy Paul Fernihough makes a swift return on Saturday to the club he helped become a leading rival for Banks’s League honours – in form Rocester.

Yet Fernihough, who shocked his former fans by quitting the Mill Street club on the crest of a wave before joining Frank Northwood’s title chasers, is not expecting a hot reception on his return to the Staffordshire village that Alan Beaman’s braves have helped put firmly on the soccer map.

“I don’t think I’ll get any stick from the fans – they’re a great crowd there,” says the player who has figured both in midfield and defence during his brief career at the Moat Ground.

What Fernihough does anticipate, though, is a torrid time from his former teammates.

“No doubt about it, it’ll be a tough one. Alan Beaman will rev them up a bit and they’ll make it hard work for us.”
