Influential Gresley Rovers midfielder Ian Wells faces a lengthy suspension after being sent off in a Sunday game.
Wells, the former Hereford striker who has been a key figure in Rovers’ 15-match unbeaten run, was sent off last Sunday after an alleged head-butting offence.
And while no details have emerged as to the likely consequences, it seems certain that the midfielder will be forced to sit out a considerable period of the season if the case against him is proved.
Rovers’ only consolation is that manager Frank Northwood appears to have the ideal replacement waiting in the wings in former Albion midfielder Graham Fearn.
Fearn figured prominently in Northwood’s early season plans but has been squeezed out of the reckoning since Wells’ emergence as a midfielder.
The former Eton Park favourite has doggedly sat it out in the reserves at the Moat Ground despite being offered a move by the club and could now come back into the reckoning.
