56-day sentence for Wells - Burton Mail

27th January 1989
Gresley Rovers’ Banks’s League title hopes have suffered a double blow on the eve of a crucial Moat Ground clash.

Rovers have been told that influential midfielder Ian Wells is facing a massive 56-day ban and striker Tracey Norton, injured on Boxing Day, will not play for at least another month.

Wells’ suspension relates to his sending off in a Sunday League game in Wolverhampton. It begins February 6 and he will not be available again until the first week in April.

Norton, meanwhile, has seen another sports injury specialist after failing to make a recovery from a serious groin injury and has been told that he needs treatment for a further four weeks at least.

Rovers also have two other injury worries as they prepare for tomorrow’s top-of-the-table clash against Rushall Olympic at the Moat Ground (3pm).

Defender Michael Guest has a badly-gashed shin and leading scorer Paul Acklam has been unable to train because of an ankle injury.
