Ins and outs at the Moat Ground - Burton Mail

7th September 1989
It was one in, one out at the Moat Ground last night as Gresley Rovers signed one player – and sacked another.

In came highly rated teenager Rees Simpson from Chesterfield and out went Jon Laws, whose attempt to resurrect his Gresley career has failed.

Manager Frank Northwood said last night: Simpson was on a three-year contract with Chesterfield be he asked to be released and signed for us on Tuesday night.”

But in a Moat Ground balancing act Northwood has shown the door to Laws, saying: “He’s not lived up to expectations.”

Northwood is hoping to re-sign another Moat Ground favourite – defender Mark Bromley.

Bromley – currently on contract at Tamworth – is unhappy at the Lamb.
