Boss hits out - Glenn Brookes - Burton Mail

15th December 2000

Gresley Rovers caretaker boss Alan Titterton has hit out at his players after their dismal showing in the 2-1 defeat to local rivals Rocester.

Titterton was disappointed at the Moatmen's performance; especially after they had battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point at Racing Club Warwick.

Said Titterton "We looked slow against Rocester, like some of the players had just finished their Christmas dinner. Rocester were quicker to the ball and won everything in the air.

"There was not enough commitment and our passing went astray - the players let themselves down and they let the fans down. We didn't deserve to win but we could have done, and we could have had a penalty when it looked like one of their players handled on the line.

"We also had a goal disallowed for a foul on the keeper but the lads said it was one of their own players who collided with him."

Titterton defended his decision to change things around but admitted his gamble to play Justin O'Reilly did not pay off.

"It was a gamble and Justin struggled a bit with his fitness - but our front men did not get the service. I am disappointed with the result, especially after we showed a lot of character to come back at Warwick."

Rovers now face Redditch at home on Saturday (30th - 3pm) before travelling to Atherstone on New Year's Day.

Titterton will be without the unavailable Steve Devine and could also be missing Matt Warren (back) and Ian Bluck (illness).

The Moat boss will also have to make a decision about Adie Doughty, who failed to show yesterday, with Titterton saying: "I'll be addressing that when I see him."
