Denby stays - Burton Mail

27th September 1989
Burton Albion’s bid to sign Gresley Rovers’ talented midfielder Richard Denby collapsed completely last night.

And the Brewers’ hopes of signing Leek Town star Alan Somerville were also hanging in the balance today.

Gresley Rovers’ committee, meeting at the Moat Ground last night, summarily rejected Albion’s offer for Denby as “completely unacceptable.”

Rovers’ secretary/treasurer Peter Jenkinson said today: “We now except this to be the end of Burton’s interest as a player. Richard has had further talks with myself and our manager Frank Northwood and wishes it to be known that he is adamant that he wants to stay at Gresley.”
