Gresley face holders - Burton Mail

2nd January 1990
Gresley Rovers must overcome holders Matlock Town if they are to make their mark on the Evan Halshaw Cup.

The Moatmen who are entering the floodlit competition for the first time are drawn in the same four-strong qualifying group as the HFS Loans Leaguers.

They travel to Causeway Lane on January 30th with the return fixture at the Moat Ground on February 13th.

Matlock will be favourites to finish top of the group but Rovers will also be looking to make an impression on the competition.

Completing the group line-up are Eastwood Town and Alfreton Town.

These two clubs are also members of the HFS Loans League but are currently in the first division and should offer the Rovers a less stern test than the Gladiators.

The group winners will qualify for the final which was played last year at Mansfield Town’s ground.
