John McGinlay

John McGinlay is itching to get down to business and make his mark in his first managerial role at Gresley Rovers.

The former Scotland and Bolton Wanderers striker has just a week to get acclimatised to his new surroundings and has admitted that the process will take a few more weeks.

McGinlay expects to see his side in competitive action in the league clash at Solihull Borough and is keen to get on with the job.

Said McGinlay: " I really hope the game goes well tomorrow as I can't wait to get going. We had a training session on Wednesday night and I was really pleased with the attitude of the players."

McGinlay has assured his players they will be given every chance to impress him and he will not even think about bringing new faces in until he has had a good look at them.

"I have not even thought about bringing players in yet," he said. "I hope the players feel they have something to prove to me as the new manager. I have got to be fair to all players and just because they were reserves under previous managers doesn't mean they have to be under me - if they impress me they will be given a chance."

Although McGinlay sees next season as the real test, he hopes to make as much progress as possible during the remainder of this campaign.

" This season is far from over and we have two important cup games coming up. But the most important thing is to build for next season," said the new Moat chief.

And McGinlay hinted at the style of play Rovers supporters will be witnessing in the near future.

" In terms of tactics and formations you have to look at what players you have at the club, but I am very much a 4-4-2 man," he said.

" I think that is the way the game should be played, with two wide men providing plenty of service to the front two. But I will not be making any important decisions yet."
