Solihull pre-match news

6th September 2002
Gresley Rovers take on one of the title favourites tomorrow with a dilemma for manager Jon Newsome.

Injuries to defensive duo Gary White (back) and Owen James who picked up a slight knock in training, and Stuart Evans still not fit could mean that Newsome could name himself to play some part in tomorrows match.

Ian Bluck who suffered a broken nose in the game against Belper last week is expected to play.
Solihull are unbeaten in the League so far this season but Newsome is expecting to get something out of this match and the one on Tuesday evening at the Moat Ground when Gresley entertain the surprise package so far Atherstone United.

“We have done very well so far but I know we can do better. This next week is a massive week for us but if the lads play to their full potential I think we can get at least 4 points if not six out of the next two games,” said Newsome.

“The lads have worked really hard to get the results they’ve got in the last couple of weeks. We’ve won four on the spin but, to be honest, we’ve not played as well as we can. There is plenty left in us yet and hopefully we can go to Solihull and get a result whether a win or draw. Obviously I want to win the game.

“Both Solihull and Atherstone have started well and we have to be conscious of them, but I’m sure they will be conscious of us.

“People will be looking at us and saying we’ve had a decent start and we go into games with a lot of confidence.

“If we manage to get four points from the next two games, which won’t be easy, we will be there or thereabouts."
