Scott’s great - Burton Mail

12th October 1990
Gresley boss Frank Northwood admitted this week: “We’ve missed our injured skipper.”

But Northwood – who has been forced to reshuffle his side during midfielder Richard Denby’s seven-match absence – revealed a silver lining to injury cloud when he added: “What has pleased me is the way other players have adapted.

“Richard is very important to us but other players have come in while he’s been injured and done well. Scott Elliott has stood in in the central midfield and he’s been one of our aces – he’s done a great job.

“When Richard comes back, Scott will be on the move again but he doesn’t care where he plays as long as he gets a shirt. That’s the sort of lad he is – he’s got a terrific attitude. He’s proved to be a very good signing for us since he joined us from Long Eaton United – it was an excellent tip-off!”

Elliott’s positional change seems imminent with Denby having come through a full reserve game and a rigorous training session this week but it is unlikely that he will be used as a replacement for Gresley’s latest injury victim, full back Martin Dick.

Dick seems set for a long lay-off after injuring a knee against Tipton last Saturday.

But with Denby’s return – and the arrival of new boy Craig Weston from Grantham – bolstering Rovers’ midfield strength it seems likely that Neil Lovell will be moved to full back for tomorrow’s trip.
