Goalkeeper Bob Aston could miss Gresley Rovers’ entire Christmas and New Year holiday programme after damaging a finger.
And the Stoke-based player could face an even longer lay-off if fears are confirmed that he broke a bone in Saturday’s 2-1 FA Vase victory over Raunds Town.
Aston’s absence for the first time in more than a year means that Tony Moore makes his Banks’s League debut in tonight’s Moat Ground clash with Tividale (7.30pm).
Moore has waited patiently for his chance of first-team football, since leaving Burton Albion last season, where his senior appearances where also restricted to friendlies because of the exemplarily form and fitness of Nick Goodwin.
A question mark also hangs over the fitness of midfielder Neil Lovell, who will have treatment before the game for a back injury, while manager Frank Northwood adds Dave Redfern to his squad.
The game gives title favourites Gresley the chance to open up a four-point lead at the top of the table.
Despite a month’s absence from league action, Rovers have retained top spot and currently have five games in hand on second and third placed Oldbury United and Lye Town.
