Bezza goes back - Burton Mail

23rd January 1991
Veteran striker Brian Beresford last night turned down the chance of a dream trip to Wembley.

Instead of staying aboard Gresley’s FA Vase bandwagon, Beresford chose to rejoin Scoreline Combination neighbours Stapenhill in a shock move.

Beresford, who has scored 17 goals for Rovers this season, agreed to the move after Rovers waived Stapenhill’s seven-day notice of approach.

Rovers boss Frank Northwood said last night: “We agreed to waive the seven days to get a decision quickly. I told Brian we didn’t want anyone to leave at the moment.”

Swans’ manager Mick Allsopp said: “We’re delighted but surprised to get Brian back. He’s been wrote off in the past but he keeps proving people wrong.”
