Matt Boyles

Brian Kenning's up and down season as Gresley Rovers' boss continued this week with two new signings being followed by the shock exit of midfielder Matt Boyles.
Boyles, signed in the summer from Oadby Town, has returned to the Leicestershire side after failing to settle at the Moat.

The move saw Kenning's weekend on a sour note despite the arrivals of Blakenhall midfielder Richard Gardner and 19-year-old former Oxford United goalkeeper Ian Simms.

Kenning is desperate to strengthen his side after a disappointing start to the season, but the loss of Boyles throws another spanner in the works.

Said Kenning: "Boyles has found the switch tougher than he expected and has also changed jobs, meaning increased travelling, but if we had started the season with five straight wins I don't think the work problems would have come into it.

"I asked him to give it a month and see how it went but he has decided to leave. It is disappointing but we have just got to get on with things"

Richard Gardner was to play against Cirencester and hopefully provide the goals that have been sadly lacking so far this season.

"Richard can play anywhere down the left side for us and is very quick and has a good left foot", said Kenning.

"He will be a great asset for us and I am delighted to have signed him."
