Still No Joy For Rovers

Two early goals led to Rovers’ undoing. Caught cold they were behind with barely a minute on the clock and nine minutes later they were two down.

Rovers made the long journey to Boston still with a depleted side but had hoped to get back on track after two successive defeats. Missing were Jack Andrews, Harrison Solomon, Kane Lee and Will Robinson due to injury. Alby Lansdowne and Jenson Cooper were serving the second of their three match bans and Phil Kowalski, who was due to start, was taken ill overnight.

The visitors made the worse possible start to the game and with just over a minute on the clock a Boston player made a run down the left beating three Rovers’ defenders, but has he cut into the area the unfortunate Eli Christie brought him down and the referee pointed to the spot. Harry Limb made no mistake giving his side and early lead.

Rovers were rocked and looked a little shaky with the tall Boston striker Jordan Nuttall heading a corner from the right narrowly wide. On 10 minutes Boston were two up. Louis Anthony was robbed of the ball on the edge of the area and the ball was sent into the box where Lucas Dakin managed to bundle the ball into the net.

Rovers began to settle and started to force the home side back forcing a corner and Jamie Sleigh firing a shot over the bar. Fin Barker was a fingertip away from getting a goal back. The winger made a fine run down the left and hit a curling shot which, for all the world, was heading into the top far corner before home keeper Travis Portas made an absolutely top draw diving save to get his fingertips to the ball and put it over the bar.

At the start of the second half it was the turn of Louie Turner to make a great save emulating his opposite number by turning Layton Maddison’s well struck free kick over the bar.

Boston extended their lead on 54 minutes. A long throw from the left found Limb in acres of space who powered the ball home for his second of the game.

Rovers made their first change with new signing Liam Kavanagh replacing Jake Meakin, but it was still Boston who were putting on the pressure with Nuttall heading a cross from the right against bar. The home side were playing to their tall striker whenever they could pumping long high balls into the area.

Sleigh went close heading wide but still the pressure was on the visitors. A corner from the left was heading into Turner’s goal be he managed to tip the effort wide and the home side went even closer a minute later. A cross being headed against the post this time by Limb.

Several changes were made to both sides with Rovers replacing Barker and King with Ethan Goodfellow and Stevie Savage, but Rovers were struggling to even get close to Boston’s goal.

Boston had one last chance with a long free kick deep into the box where it was met but Turner made a good save down low at foot of the post to deny them another goal.
