Gaz Norton's Reserve team news

Gaz Norton

The Reserves are away at Bedworth United on Saturday and after a poor start to the year I was encouraged by the performance last week against Rugby United which saw us get a 1-1 draw.
Ryan Yearsley got his 14th goal of the season with the equaliser midway through the 1st half. We played well in the second half and had a few decent chances to take all 3 points in the final 10 minutes of the game but the luck wasn’t with us. 16 year old youth team defender Richard Foster made another appearance and again looked comfortable. On the subject of the youth team, they have just taken delivery of some new equipment courtesy of funds raised by the Reserve team. We have provided the youth team with brand new warm up jumpers together with a new medical bag and sponge bag. I hope Tony and Bobs lads enjoy warming up looking smart in their new gear.

We also had another new signing on show at Rugby. Mickey Alexander, Older Brother of Earl made his Gresley debut on trial as we continue our hunt to improve our current squad. Mickey came on the hour mark and performed well and certainly warranted us having another look at him over the next couple of games.
Jim Lewsley continues his comeback from injury and it was nice to catch up with him during training earlier this week. Jim suffered a nasty knee injury at the end of last season and broke down in his comback game early this season in a Reserve Team game at Redditch United. Im sure you will join me in wishing Jim all the best on the road back to fitness.

Ryan Yearsley is this seasons surprise package for Vanders and I. Ryan has netted 14 times for us so far this season and has come on no end from last season. He seems to have the nack of being at the right place at the right time and as a forward, that priceless. Ryan has also played a few times out of position including midfield roles as well as central defence in a game at Hinckley United earlier this season. Despite having never played there in his life, he played very well. Ryan is currently the oldest player in our squad at 23 and his attitude this season has been top drawer. His work rate recently has been great and even though results haven’t been the best, he’s kept giving 100% to the cause.
