Frankie plans farewell treat

If Frank Northwood gets his way, England and Wolverhampton star Steve Bull could be pulling on a red and white shirt to play for Gresley Rovers.
Retiring manager Northwood, who steps down as the most successful manager of Rovers at the end of the season, is having behind-the-scenes discussions with his network of contacts in Wolverhampton.

And along with trying to get the international striker to come to the Moat Ground, a home match against a full Derby County squad plus promotion into the Southern Premier League could be the final party crackers heralding the end of Frank Northwood’s golden era.

Hopes are high that Wolves and England star Steve Bull will take up the challenge to become a Moatman for the day.

“I’ve got someone out looking to get Steve Bull to play for Rovers in a one-off game. It would be a nice crowd puller. And I’m looking to play Derby too,” said Northwood.

If a deal can be pulled off, the appearance of Bull at Moat Street will add extra sparkle to Northwood’s final days in charge of Gresley.

But the biggest prize of all could come if Rovers remain champions of the West Midlands Senior League to pave the way for a promotion bid into the Southern Premier League Midlands Division next season.
