Frank angry over Xmas card

Gresley Rovers boss Frank Northwood saw red after Shepshed referee John Carrington littered Hinckley Town’s Middlefield Lane with yellow cards yesterday.
Northwood stormed: “How can you beat a ref like that?” after a typically controversial performance by Mr Carrington in which both sides had two players booked during a 1-1 draw.

Northwood was particularly aggrieved at skipper Richard Denby’s booking for dissent – his fourth of the season, taking him close to an automatic suspension.

“Richard was well onside but the ref blew for offside then booked him even though Richard didn’t say a word to him,” he said.

“We had enough chances to win – in fact we had so much of the play we murdered them. In the end it’s two points dropped rather than one gained.”

Gresley travel to Cradley Town tomorrow as they again bid to strengthen their position at the top of the West Midlands League Premier Division.

The Moatmen went another point clear despite only drawing. Second placed Stourport Swifts were without a game.
