Crucial hurdle looms for Evans

Gresley defender Stuart Evans faces a make-or-break fitness test against Pelsall Villa tonight (7.30pm) – with a place in the Rovers’ league cup final line-up at stake.
Evans and top scorer Brian Beresford are both pencilled in by manager Steve Dolby in a bid to test the twosome’s fitness for the West Midlands League Cup final clash with Paget Rangers at Blakenall a week tomorrow.

Said Dolby: “Stuart needs to come through this one if he is to play against Paget. He’s been suffering from a groin strain and we need to see if he can get through a game.

“Brian has an ankle knock but the problem is not so serious as Stuart’s and we’re hoping he will be OK to face Paget.”

Skipper Richard Denby and striker Kieron Smith both miss a game that has very little significance other than as an end-of-season workout because of work commitments, with youth team players Chris Parkins and David Mead both looking for a first team run-out.

Midfielders Neil Lovell and Scott Elliott have both recovered from ankle injuries while Richard Wardle’s back injury is unlikely to keep him out.
