Top boss Steve Dolby accepted the plaudits today then pledged: “I’m out to win it again in April – because if I do Gresley will be Beazer Midland champions.
The Rovers boss picked up the Beazer Midland manager-of-the-month award after his team’s unbeaten league run in March, in which they won five out of six games.

They then set about repeating the feat in April by winning 2-0 at Evesham on Saturday with Dolby urging his troops to keep up the trend against Leicester United at Blaby tonight (7.30pm).

But the Moat chief expects a tougher examination of his side’s title credentials, saying: “They seem to have hit a good run of form. They gave Nuneaton a very close game recently and followed that up with a 1-0 win over Rushden & Diamonds.

“We’ll be looking to carry on from where we left off on Saturday but I’m expecting a much harder game. Having said that, it’s a nice big pitch and it should be in perfect condition after the rain we’ve had so we’re looking forward to it.”

With Thursday’s Derbyshire Senior Cup semi-final at Ilkeston waiting just round the corner and league leaders Nuneaton due at the Moat Ground on Saturday, Dolby acknowledges that his squad faces a testing time but insists that he will not be pulling any punches.

“We’ve just got to make full use of our squad and give players a rest when we can. Craig Weston was left out on Saturday for that reason but he’ll come back into the reckoning tonight, although Tony Marsden is doubtful. But there’s no question of my not picking a full-strength side for Thursday’s game. I’ve said all along that I’m determined to win something this season and it could be that will be the Derbyshire Senior Cup.

“The players have done remarkably well, especially after the disappointment of going out of the Vase, and the manager-of-the-month award is down to them really. It’s just a question of them carrying it on until the end of the season.”
