Training Begins

Saturday 7th July saw a record number of players from the first, reserve and youth teams join up for what was a gruelling day of pre-season training under the watchful eye of John McGinlay and the other coaches.
John put them all through their paces to check on their fitness levels. One of his criticisms of the teams last season was their apparent lack of full match fitness towards the end of the campaign. This is something he, along with the other coaching staff, are determined to put right for the new season.

Part of this build–up is a series of challenging friendlies including home fixtures against Tamworth of the Dr Martens Premier League and Hednesford Town recently relegated to the Premier from the Conference.

Training BeginsThere will also be the Bass Vase competition in which Gresley play Notts County and West Bromwich Albion at home (see fixtures for details).

So who was at the training session? There were familiar faces, such as Kevin Allsop and Richard Wardle and some new signings such as Alex Green and John Allcock.

However we will have to wait a little longer to know for definite the squad line-up for the new campaign as John and his colleagues finalise their selections.

One welcome visitor to the training session who came to "have a run" and meet up with some old mates was Wayne Thornhill who has just successfully completed his UEFA "B" coaching badge.

We wish him every success in his coaching career.
