It's Back to Training
Carl Slater

It only seems like a few days since the last season ended but tonight (Tues) sees the first pre-season training session for Gresley Rovers.
A mix of new and familiar faces will start their hard work of getting ready for the new season in UniBond Division One South.

Manager Gary Norton will be putting the players through their paces and will be casting an eye on those who will possibly begin the new campaign.

One player who can't wait is midfielder Carl Slater. Carl was a regular on the first team sheet last term until he was unfortunately injured against Alsager back in March.

The injury looked a serious one as it was suspected that Carl had damaged his knee to such an extent that his footballing career hung in the balance.

Thankfully, after three weeks on crutches it was confirmed by an MRI scan that the damage was not has bad as first thought although a minor operation may still be required to sort out the problem.

Carl has been working hard this summer to strengthen his knee running between two and twelve miles every other day.

"I'll be there for pre-season training," said the popular midfielder. "I will do a bit of running and see how it goes.

"I can't stand being on the sidelines and I'm itching to get started - I can't wait to get back.

"This will be my sixth or seventh season with Gresley. I get on with everyone at the club and despite all the difficulties last season, I've never thought of leaving the Moat Ground.

"A few clubs have been mentioned but it has never crossed my mind to leave."
