Spooner calls it a day
Gresley Rovers' Steve Spooner has announced the nds of his playing career. The former Burton Albion favourite, who moved to the Moat Ground during the summer to be Brian Kenning's number 2 after 3 years at Eaton Park, has called it a day after enduring two injury-plagued seasons.
During 1998/99 with Albion, Spooner suffered a broken elbow, ribs and arm as well as a groin problem which needed surgery. And appearanced during the current campaign have been curtailed by another broken arm, more groin problems and a long-term thigh injury. Now Spooner has decided enough is enough and said he intended to concentrate on a coaching career with vacancies in the Football League having already attracted his attention. When Spooner does vacate his berth at the Moat, skipper Richard Wardle is exprected to assume some of the extra coaching work load.
