Danny Blair
Manager Gary Norton has revealed that Danny Blair has seemingly made a u-turn on his decision to commit to Gresley Rovers for next season by signing for one of his former clubs and UniBond Division One South rivals Carlton Town.
Norton broke the news after being unable to make contact with Blair over the weekend despite numerous attempts. He explained: "I last spoke to Danny a couple of weeks ago after we had tried to book him in to see someone about the back injury that he had last season and everything seemed fine.

"However someone informed me over the weekend that they had seen on the Carlton website that he had signed for them. There was even an interview with him - so I'm resigned to the fact that it's true. I say that because he's not spoken to us about it at all and we have been unable to contact him over the last few days despite numerous attempts to do so.

"The situation is extremely disappointing and the way that Danny has dealt with it is very unprofessional. Obviously he has had a difficult decision to make and once made he should have at the very least had the decency and courtesy to call us and let us know the situation.

"He hadn't signed a contract with us as I was worried about his back injury - but like others, he had signed non contract forms for us at the end of last season. The fact that we had not yet registered him with the league as forms are not accepted by the league until 1st June is irrelevant and Danny should have spoken to us about his decision.

"To be fair, Carlton Town have done little wrong in all of this. However Danny has not conducted himself in the manner you would expect a player to in these circumstances.

"Had he called and explained the fact that he had changed his mind and wanted to return to Carlton Town then I would have obviously been very disappointed but would have fully respected his decision. Fortunately, this is the first time I've experienced such a situation and I really hope its the last.
