Rams swoop for Gee
Story courtesy of
Gresley Rovers’ manager Frank Northwood and his protégé striker Phil Gee were at the Baseball Ground this afternoon thrashing out transfer terms with Derby County.
In a sensational deal. 20-year-old Gee looks to join the Third Division club – just weeks after being plucked from Sunday football by Northwood.

Gee has scored six goals in his first five games for Gresley after joining them in the summer from Bloxwich Town.

He has been watched by scouts from Coventry City as well as theRams, but Derby have made the first move.

Northwood and the player have been invited to the Baseball Ground this afternoon to discuss terms.

The Rovers manager said: “I shall be looking for a fee in the region of £5,000.”

Any deal would probably involve Derby making an initial payment followed by more cash based on his first team appearance.

Northwood said: “I have talked to Stuart Webb and I feel we might be able to crack a deal. They certainly seem very keen to sign Phil,” he added.

Gee was recommended to Northwood by Burton Albion centre-half Steve Essex who played in the same Sunday side as the striker last season.

He arrived at the Moat Ground during the summer and was an immediate hit, scoring five goals in the first two games.
