Jubilant Gresley Rovers manager Frank Northwood today paid tribute to the ’11 heroes’ who earned the club one of the greatest results in their history on Saturday.
Saturday’s 1 – 0 FA Cup victory at Alfreton took the Moatmen into the Fourth Qualifying Round of the competition for the first time since 1953.

And they are now within one match of reaching the First Round proper for the first time since 1930’s.

A penalty from Clive Arthur earned Rovers that victory and sent them into the hat today alongside neighbours Burton Albion.

And afterwards Northwood said: “I had 11 heroes out there. Everybody contributed something to the victory.”

And he singled out goalkeeper Martin McNamara and central defender Steve Dolby for special mention.

“Dolby’s will to win was tremendous. Even with a cut head he kept battling on to keep us ahead,” said Northwood.

“And McNamara was in great form. Although he was never troubled by a serious shot, his handling was immaculate.”
