Gresley Rovers’ leading scorer Brian Beresford is set to turn down the chance to join his former club Dudley Town.
Dudley’s new manager, Barry Stobart, has given Rovers seven days notice of his intention to talk to Beresford as he attempts to change the fortunes of the Southern League Premier Division side.

But Stobart, who was manager at Willenhall when Beresford was a player at Noose Lane, is likely to be rebuffed.

Beresford said last night: “I shall be happy to talk to Dudley, but that’s as far as it will go. I’m happy at the Moat Ground, Gresley have been good to me and now I live and work in the area so it is an ideal arrangement. One of the reasons I left Dudley was because of the travelling involved in the Southern Premier and I wouldn’t want to take on anything that means me having to take a lot of time off work.”

Beresford joined Rovers from Dudley 15 months ago and plundered 39 goals in his first season at the Moat Ground.

He is their leading marksman again this term, with a tally of 14 goals in 33 appearences.
