Carlton Pre-Match News
Gresley FC entertain Carlton Town tomorrow at the Moat Ground in a fixture brought forward from February due to the fact that both teams had a spare weekend due to FA cup exits a couple of weeks back.
Gresley are looking for a 3rd win on the bounce after recording victories in their previous two encounters against Belper Town and Tadcaster Albion. Manager Gary Norton will run a late check on defender Matt Roome who limped out of the action at Belper with an ankle injury and missed last Saturday's Tadcaster game. Norton will be without the services of young forward Kane Lee due to a pre-arranged personal commitment. Ryan King and Callum Riddell continue to be sidelined with knee injuries with Norton hopeful both will be in a position to be considered for a return soon.

The manager is also hoping for a positive crowd for the game after a disappointing one last Saturday against Tadcaster. He said, “ having seen almost 280 turn out for our first home game against Stocksbridge Park Steels on a Tuesday night I was really hoping we could break the 300 mark last week to underpin the positive vibes we have been seeing all summer around the local area since we made the changes that we have both on and off the pitch.

"I guess we had lots of people still on holidays last week or perhaps just taking the chance to enjoy the last of the summer weather before it turns but we were really hoping for 300 plus rather than the 220 odd we got. We will try our best to play some entertaining and competitive football to keep those who back us interested and coming back again. With this weekend being an international break week we are hoping a few extra folk might pop down for a football fix and boost our numbers.”

He added. “Our start has been OK if unspectacular and we have 7 points on the board and 2 wins from our first four league games. It took 13 games last season to accumulate 7 points and 15 games to get 2 league wins so comparatively speaking we are happy with the start we have made.”

Gresley also have a midweek encounter with a trip to AFC Mansfield planned for Tuesday night.
